“Types of Work permit”

Work permit for local heirs: It is issued for foreigners but with local contractors. The contract must be at least 1 year and can be extended after that of the contracted need. The permit is valid for only 1 year and can be renewed if further needed.

Work permits for highly skilled professionals: For this permit, it is necessary to have the highly skilled professionalism required for the high ranking or position in the Romanian company. The professional has to show his qualifications and the salary package must be at least double the gross average. This work permit is applicable or valid for 2 years and then extendable.

Work permits for intra-corporate transfer (ICT) workers  and trainers: It is mainly focused on the employers that work for the same company but in different countries. The work permit is only for those who have experience of at least 3 years. Three consecutive months of training must get work permits for ICT workers and trainers.


Other interns: These are also issued for seasonal workers, athletes, interns, nominal workers, etc.

1:Short type(C-type)visa: A short-type visa is valid for only 90 days. Many nationalities are exempt from applying and can enter your arrival. Visa has a very short stay; long employment is not allowed there. Visitors are engaging in specific activities like installing and maintaining the machinery. In this visa, you cannot extend the visa for a further stay.

2: Long type (D-type) visa: This visa permits individuals to stay in Romania for three months and work during their visit. Some foreigners who have D-type visas apply for a residence permit to stay longer in Romania for work. It is done when the employer gets the work permit from the IGI.

3: Digital normed visa: This visa is very censorious in assuring the employees in Romania and works remotely to oversee workers retain legal work and labor law. The visa is extended for just up to 1 year, can be extended for a year, and does not require a work permit to obtain.

Requirement for Romanian work visa and permits

These are some important documents for work visas and permits for all foreign countries. 

Work permits: The crucial requirement is work permits, for which an employer gets the work permit from IGI.
Passport: The applicant has a valid passport with a validity of at least 3 months beyond the intended stay in Romania.
Residential proof: In the application, this proof must be attached with a proper address and area.
The recent identification of the photo: Two different colour photos with 3 cm*4 cm with a white background are required.
Medicine insurance proof: The applicant has to submit the medicine insurance proof for the duration of the stay in Romania. 
Complete the application form: The application form must be completed, filled out, and attached to all documents mentioned above.
Other Document: It depends on the type of visa you are applying for; accordingly, specific documents must be added.
Dues: There is a specific fee for the application form. Every type of visa has different dues. Paying the fee is compulsory. The price is 150 USD for a long-stay employment visa.

4. How do I apply to obtain work permits and work visas?

After fulfilling all the requirements, here I am telling you how you apply for Romanian work permits and work visas.


Work permits: The applicant starts to complete the application for obtaining Romanian work permits with the IGI. They ask you to submit some of the documents I have mentioned above to demonstrate the training and company requirements.
The applicant has to pay 110 USD as dues for each visa permit. It may exceed.

Work visa

Directly through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, you apply for work visas. Here are the steps to follow:
(1) Submit the Romanian application.
(2) Attach the electronic copies of all required documents.
(3) Collect and submit the original document to the Romanian consultancy, embassy, etc.
(4) Wait for your application authorization.
(5) Interview the Romanian visa 
(6) Pay the dues of 146$.
(7) Wait for the application to be approved and your visa issued.

Application Processing Time

It almost takes 4 to 6 weeks. If any other document is required, the Romanian IGI extends the processing time up to 15 days . A work visa takes almost 10 to 14 days to process.

Other important considerations

*If someone wants to extend the tenure, you can request it to the IGI. There will be a need to apply. It takes 30 days at least before the visa expires. 
*In Romania, tenure extends up to 2 years further.
